About Us
Est. 2008 · Shoreline, Seattle
Buddha Jewel Monastery was officially established in September 2008 as Chung Tai Chan Monastery's Dharma center serving the greater Seattle area. The seeds of the monastery were planted in the early spring of 1998, when Grand Master Wei Chueh, the Founding Abbot of Chung Tai Chan Monastery, came to Seattle to teach the Dharma. His lively and profound teachings of Chan deeply touched many hearts. Over the next ten years, through the sincere aspirations and devoted efforts of practitioners and supporters, the causes and conditions gradually ripened, and Buddha Jewel Monastery came into being.
Today, the monastery continues Grand Master Wei Chueh's vision of bringing the wisdom of Chan Buddhism to people of all backgrounds, serving both English- and Chinese-speaking communities throughout Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.
